SRINAGAR, June 18: JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik and others were arrested at Sangam when they were on their way to Doda and Kishtwar to distribute relief among the earthquake affected people.
Others, who were taken into custody by police included Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Noor Mohammad Kalwal, Showkat Bakhshi, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, Imtiyaz Ahmad Bitta, Mohammad Sideeq Shah, Bashir Kashmiri and Prof Javed.
After their arrest the JKLF leaders and activists were lodged in Awantipora police station and then shifted to Kothibagh police station here.
This is for the second time that JKLF chairman was not allowed to distribute relief among the earthquake affected people in Doda and Kishtwar districts. Earlier, the police had detained JKLF leaders and activists at Doda and sent back to Srinagar.
JKLF has strongly condemned the police action. In a statement a spokesman of the party said, “In wars and active military conflicts relief and social work is not banned or barred but today India and its puppets have violated this normal humane activity also.”
He said a JKLF team left early this morning for Doda. “When they reached near Sangam Bridge they were stopped by police and other forces. Police had laid a siege on the road and stopped the caravan. Police arrested Malik and others,” the spokesman added.
“This act of state terrorism also shows that besides public meetings and processions, there is a also blanket ban on social work and providing relief to victims of natural catastrophe and even uttering a word of truth,” the spokesman said.
JKLF spokesman viewed that everyone is issuing mere statements. “When people of Kashmir through JKLF tried to reach the victims, rulers instead of facilitating this relief work have twice stopped and arrested the chairman and others and prevented them from doing this noble work,” he stated.
JKLF alleged that this 'Jangal Raaj' of so-called democrats is responsible for this new situation. This attitude of rulers shows that their job is only to politicize even the humanitarian issues like in Doda, he said.
