Rajouri Hurriyat leader booked for hawala transactions

RAJOURI, June 18: Carrying forward investigations in arrest of separatist leader of Poonch district having association with Mirwaiz group, police today claimed to have scanned his two accounts and a transaction of Rs 6 lakhs was detected in one his accounts.
The money was transferred to his account by four persons from Saudi Arabia during the last three months.
Separatist leader Mohammad Farooq has been booked by Rajouri police for involvement in hawala network transactions last evening. Police have recovered Rs 95000 from his possession.
Today he was taken to Surankot where police has searched his house and detected his accounts in SBI and J&K Banks.
Police said that Farooq is a Pakistan trained militant and was associated with JKLF outfit. He was sent for arms training in 1990. He came back along with 1-revolver, 10 rounds and 2 grenades and was arrested and tried in the court. Whether he was on bail or still the case under trial was not disclosed by the police but police said that since then he associated himself with the Hurriyat Conference.
Some reliable sources said that police was reportedly informed by his rivals in the Hurriyat Conference about his movement along with hawala money.
However, senior police officer said that it was the information of police source.
DIG Police Rajouri Poonch range Danesh Rana told KTNS that transaction of more than 6 lakhs in one of his accounts in SBI branch at Surankot has been detected by the police. The money was transferred to his account by four persons from Saudi Arabia during the last three months.
Police also investigating his other account in J&K bank branch at Surankot and the details of the account are still awaited, he added.
Farooq has been booked in case FIR number 95 of 2013 under sections 11/13/17/21/40 Unlawful Activities Act at Police Station Thanamandi.
