Traffic resumes on Srinagar-Jammu NHW after disruption due to landslides
KT NEWS SERVICE
SRINAGAR, July 15: Traffic resumed on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, after disruption due to fresh landslides early this morning.

“We have again resumed traffic on the highway though only light vehicles were allowed from both sides,” a traffic police official said.

He said traffic on the highway was suspended this morning following fresh landslides at Mehar, Ramban, on the highway. However, the Border Roads Organisation( BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway immediately put into service sophisticated machines and men to clear the landslides.

Major portion of the landslides had been cleared and light vehicle traffic was allowed from both sides, traffic police official said.

He said efforts were being made to remove the landslides.

However, he said, the vehicles, carrying pilgrims which had left Bagwati Nagar, Jammu base camp for Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps are on way. By the time the vehicles reach Ramban, the BRO would have removed the landslides, he said.

Traffic on the national highway, linking Ladakh region with Kashmir and historic Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir and Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region was plying normally.
