Heroin worth Rs 20 cr seized in Jammu, 2 held in Jammu: IGP

JAMMU, July 14: Police claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers and seized 15 kg of heroin worth crores, bearing "Pakistani markings” in Nagrota area of Jammu outskirts.

Addressing media persons here today, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone SD Singh Jamwal said, "On a specific input, the police arrested the duo and seized 15 kg of high-grade heroin worth Rs 20 crore in the international market from them on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway at Nagrota here.”

He said the recovery was made from a i.20 car bearing registration number JK01AC-8515 at the Ban Toll Plaza when it was on its way from Kashmir to Amritsar via Jammu. The consignment, which had the "Pakistani markings", seems to have come from across the border, Jamwal said, adding that the recovery was made by Special Operation Group (SOG) and cops of Police Station Nagrota at about 8:30 AM.

The arrested persons have been identified as Nisar Ahmed Bhat, son of Ghulam Rasool Bhat of Keri Baramulla and Peer Abdul Mohmin, son of Peer Mohammad Ashraf of Vaishpora Tehsil Handwara in Kupwara districts of North Kashmir.

"The consignment was meant for a party in Amritsar. The Punjab police has been informed about it," he added.

The IGP said a case FIR number 152 of 2017 under section 8/21 NDPS Act, has been registered at Police Station Nagrota.
