Youth injured in firing amid clashes in Pulwama

ANANTNAG, July 13: Amid a complete shutdown in all the major and small townships of south Kashmir, clashes erupted in Pulwama township today. During the clashes a youth was injured after being hit by a bullet.
Responding to the shutdown call given joint resistance leadership to commemorate the 'martyrs' of July 13 all the district headquarters including Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam and other townships observed a complete shutdown.
Amid a complete shutdown forces were deployed in strength in all the townships of the region to maintain law and order situation. Though the situation in rest of the region remained peaceful, clashes broke out in volatile Pulwama town.
Reports said that youth took to streets and hurled stones at security forces in Court Road area in the evening when the deployment was being withdrawn from the town. The security forces initially lobbed tear smoke shells to disperse the stone throwing youth.
Later, para-military forces opened fire injuring a youth identified as Obaid Ahmad of Chatpora Pulwama. The injured youth was taken to district hospital Pulwama, where he is being treated. "The youth has been hit by a bullet in his leg and is stable," hospital sources said.
Witnesses said that soon after the boy was injured clashes intensified in the area which continued till late evening.
