Eid celebrated with traditional fervour, gaiety in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Jun 26: Eid-ul-Fitre was today celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety across the Kashmir Valley.
Big Eid congregations were held in eidgahs, mosques, shrines and Imam Baras. Muslims from all walks of life started making a beeline to Eidgahs (prayer ground) or mosques for offering Eid prayers as a thanksgiving for the month-long fasting of Ramazan.
The biggest congregations were held at Eidgah and Hazratbal here. Big gatherings were also reported from Sonawar and Soura Shrines in the heart of the city, they said, adding that similar gatherings were held at all districts headquarters and major towns of the Valley.
The Eid marked the end of 29 days long fasting month of Ramazan. The Eid day began with people people greeting their family members, neighbours, relatives and friends. After the morning tea, they moved towards eidgahs, mosques, shrines and Imam Baras to offer Eid prayer. After the Eid prayer and Eid lunch, the greetings continued. People visited their relatives and friends to greet them.
Children dressed in colourful outfits celebrated Eid with enthusiasm. They converged on public parks and roads. Some of them burst crackers also.
Because of the Eid, public parks and tourist places witnessed rush. Some families moved out to spend some time together at such places and returned in the evening.
Public transport also started plying on roads to some extent after the afternoon hours, making the movement of the people easier.
Reports of Eid celebrations were received from all the districts of Valeey including Budgam, Baramulla, Kupwara, Kulgam, Shopian, Pulwama, Bandipora and Ganderbal.
