Clashes after Eid prayers at several places in Valley

SRINAGAR, Jun 26: Clashes erupted between the protestors and police and paramilitary forces after Eid prayers at several places in Kashmir. Cops and to burst smoke shells and resort to lathi-charge to disperse the protestors, pelting stones. However, in rest of Valley Eid day passed off peacefully.
Even as elaborate security arrangements were made across the Valley today, no restrictions on the movement of people or transport were imposed despite the recent killings of militants and some civilians by security forces. However, all senior separatist leaders including Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Shabir Ahmad Shah were under house arrest. JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik is in central jail here after his arrest few days back.
The authorities today allowed prayers at Eidgah here. Thousands of people reached there for the prayers. But Mirwaiz, who was to address the people there could not because of his house arrest. He addressed the congregation through telephone.
Later clashes occurred between the protesting youth and police and security forces. The protestors pelted stones and cops burst smoke shells. The clashes led to chaos and confusion with people running for safety. The clashes spread to some neighouring areas.
Reinforcement of police and security forces was rushed to the affected areas. Reports of clashes were also received from Gawkadal area.
Reports from Anantnag said five police officers, including a DySP, and several civilians were injured there.
The clashes occurred when youth raised slogans at Janglat Mandi and Achajipora localities of the town after Eid prayers concluded at Hanfia and Ahli Hadith eidgahs. The protestors resorted to stone pelting.
Five police officials including DySP Ashfaq Alam and DO Janglat Mandi Gowhar Ahmad were injured during the clashes. Several civilians were also injured in the clashes. The clashes spread to Sherpora and Achabal Adda also.
People took out a march after Eid prayers at Chadoora in Budgam district.
They marched from Jamia Masjid Chadoora to martyrs' graveyard to pay tributes to two local youth killed in firing by forces on protesters during an encounter on March 28.
According to reports, over a dozen protesters were injured during clashes with security forces after Eid prayers in Sopore. At Palhallan in Pattan, youth staged protests after Eid prayers and clashed with forces near the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road.
Clashes were also reported from Kulgam, Shopian and other areas of south Kashmir
