Opinion of party workers will be sought on pre-poll alliance: Soz

SRINAGAR, June 16: PCC chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz today said his party would seek suggestions from its workers on pre-poll alliance with any party and subsequently a decision will be taken and forwarded to the Congress high command in New Delhi for its approval.
He was talking to a local news agency, CNS, a day after Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi said a decision regarding pre-poll alliance with NC would be taken by the party high command.
PCC chief suggested to chief minister Omar Abdullah to convene a unified headquarter (UF) meeting to take a final decision on the partial revocation of AFSPA.
“Normalcy has returned and lot of discussions have already taken place on the issue and it is the right time for Omar Abdullah to call a UF meeting and take a decision in this regard,” Soz said.
He added that his personal opinion is that the Act should be revoked from peaceful areas now.
PCC chief viewed that time has come for the revocation of AFSPA. "I think the AFSPA should go from a few places in the state. There are areas where normalcy has returned permanently and the situation is conducive there for repealing of the act," he said adding that deliberations and discussions on this issue has already taken place and now the time is for action.
Soz, however, said this issue should not be politicized. “People are mature enough to evaluate the situation. If some party will use the issue as election plank that will be most unfortunate,” he said.
"It should not be turned into a political issue and one should desist from making it a public debate," said Soz.
PCC chief said Rahul advised Congress ministers not to be constituency specific. “Rahul Gandhi simply advised Congress ministers to be pro-people and not to concentrate on a particular constituency. We welcome his advice and suggestions and I hope the Congress ministers will act upon that,” he said.
He hoped that UMEED scheme launched by Centre Government would prove beneficial for the females of the state
