‘Will decide future strategy once govt clears picture over GST’

SRINAGAR, Jun 17: Police today detained the president of Kashmir Traders and Manufacturing Federation (KTMF), Mohammad Yasin Khan when he along with his members were on way to Civil Secretariat to protest against the move for the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) in Jammu and Kashmir.
Khan along with scores of members was detained at Ghanta Ghar-Lal Chowk.
Earlier, the protesters assembled at Ghanta Ghar and staged sit-in there.
Khan while talking to media said the protest was aimed at warning the state government over implementing the GST in the state. “The government’s GST theory, one tax one India is unacceptable to us. We will not allow the government to implement the Indian law in the state at any cost as the Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed territory and is enjoying its own constitution and powers.”
He said the GST implementation is to infringe the special status of J&K. “We are against the government move and will oppose it tooth and nail,” he said.
Khan said the implementation of GST in the state would affect the business community here and it would certainly deteriorate the situation.
He also said that KTMF will decide future strategy once the government clear picture over the implementation of GST.
Meanwhile, the protesters later tried to march towards Civil Secretariat.
However, police swung into the action and detained scores of KTMF members including its president.
Pertinently, the traders today observed complete shutdown against the GST implementation.
