Pak soldier caught at LoC

POONCH, July 12: Army troops today apprehended a Pakistani soldier who had crossed over to this side along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district for sake of an Indian girl with whom he was in love.

A 19-year old Pakistani Sepoy has been apprehended by the troops in Kerni forward area in Poonch district around 6 am today, Army officials said.

Identified as Arif Ali, the Pak solider belongs to Charlie Company 25 Frontier Force (FF) of the Pakistani army and was posted at Saifullah Post-2 along the LoC in PAK. Ali is son of one Bashir Ahmed and is a resident of Quetta in Pakistan.

"No weapons have been found in his possession", the officials said.

Army recovered Rs 13, 000 in cash and two SIM cards issued by two Pakistan-based cellular operators from his possession, they said. The soldier was being interrogated and is likely to be returned.

Ali reportedly crossed the LoC and came to this side for a girl in Kerni village which is located on the zero line opposite the Pak posts, sources said, adding that Arif belongs to the area just in front of Natu Gate, 20 km from Poonch, in the Indian territory. He had an affair with a girl living in India.

The defence ministry has confirmed that Ali is a regular Pakistani Army soldier.

A news channel claimed that he has sought asylum in India. However, other reports said that he will be deported back to Pakistan.
