Vyas calls on Jitendra, discusses law, order situation

NEW DELHI, May 24: The recently appointed Chief Secretary Jammu and Kashmir B B Vyas, currently on his maiden visit to the union capital after taking over his present assignment, called on Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh and discussed wide range of state issues, including those related to law and order and administration.
Vyas, who earlier attended a security-related meeting headed by Union Home Secretary Rajeev Mehrishi and another exclusive meeting pertaining to the conduct of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, gave Dr Jitendra Singh a brief resume of his assessment of the current situation in the state.
Dr Singh reiterated the Government of India's resolve to restore normalcy in Kashmir valley and control such elements which were either trying to misguide the youth or threatening them not to allow them to carry on with their routine activity. He said, the youth of Kashmir were keen to be a part of India's development journey, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and it was therefore the responsibility of the government as well as the right-thinking citizens to ensure that the future of the youth was not put at stake.
The Chief Secretary informed Dr Jitendra Singh that all arrangements were made for the smooth conduct of Amarnath Yatra scheduled to begin next month. He said, besides the security arrangements, the logistic and other aspects were also being adequately taken care of. Dr Singh also enquired about the arrangements for the border area people in view of the constant cross-firing and the disturbance along the LoC.
He emphasized that besides safety, the basic amenities were equally important to be provided to them. Vyas conveyed that the divisional administration in was keeping constant monitoring and on day to day basis, ensuring to provide whatever provisions or arrangements were required. The Chief Secretary also informed the Minister that ever since he had taken over, he tried to facilitate closer and closer contact of administration with people in different parts of the state. This, he said, had begun to show dividends and people were also approaching the administration for redress of their issues.
