DUBAI, (UAE), May 24: Former India stumper Farokh Engineer has been spending more of his life in Manchester than his home-town Mumbai.
On Wednesday he described the terror attack in Manchester as "most horrible".
Speaking exclusively over his mobile from Manchester, he said, "it is the worst terrorist attack in this part of the world. People are very much frightened and afraid of coming out from their home".
"It is shameful on the part of the attacker /s. So many innocent people have lost their lives. People are panicking and have no clues on their movements".
"It is disgusting to learn that the sophisticated weapon device was used for this attack".
Farokh Engineer's first visit to Manchester was in 1966. He was the first player from India to play professional cricket in England. Lancashire County Cricket Club had signed him to play. He was also signed by the Brylcream.
Legendary soccer player and Masnchester United winger George Best (died in 2005) was his best friend and they were neighbours for many years in Manchester.
In 2015, Farokh Engineer had hosted a two-day business conference in Manchester where he declared the city as an international business hub.
"I really feel pity for the victims and affected people. However, I appeal to the people of the city to calm down and don't show their emotions, which otherwise will encourage the attackers".
"But yes, the Champions Trophy must be played. The show must go on. There is no reason why the Champions Trophy be abandoned", he further added.
The ICC is reviewing the security arrangement for the teams. There is no match scheduled in Manchester.
