18-hour long search operation ends in Tral

SRINAGAR, May 18: The 18-hour-long cordon and search operation at Seer village of Tral area in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district ended today.
The area was under siege since Wednesday evening following reports that a group of militants was hiding in the area.
During the search operation, the entire area was cordoned off and door to door searches were carried out following the inputs about the presence of militants. The local population was assembled in a common place and identities of youths were checked and relatives of the militants were question.
During the search operation, no contact was established between the forces and militants. However, during the search operation number of youths was picked up for questioning.
This was the second major operation by army in Pulwama district within a week, after they carried out similar operation in Shopian area. During the search operation they are facing stiff resistance from stone pelting incidents.
The operation was carried out jointly by army, SOG of state police and CRPF.
Forces have started conducting CASO especially in southern parts of Kashmir on the pattern of nineties.
