Shutdown in Kashmir against Kupwara civilian killing

SRINAGAR, Apr 30: Normal life across Kashmir valley was affected today due to a shutdown call given by separatist leadership against the killing of a civilian by security forces in Kupwara district. He was killed in security forces firing on protestors after an encounter.
Owing to the strike call shops, stores and other business establishments remained shut across Kashmir valley. The public transport mostly remained off the roads though a slight movement of private vehicles was witnessed in some areas.
However the street vendors had erected their makeshift stalls at some places in Lal Chowk. The Sunday street market witnessed some movement of local shoppers.
Pertinently the separatist leadership of Kashmir had called for a complete shutdown in Kashmir valley against the killing of a 65 year old person by security forces in district Kupwara of North Kashmir on April 27 during a protest.
The slain civilian identified as Mohammad Yousuf Bhat was killed when security forces opened fire during a protest by the locals in Panzgaam village of Kupwara following a militant attack on an army camp in the area.
According to the news reports tight security arrangements were put in place by the authorities in several areas of district Kupwara today to thwart any protests and clashes in the area.
Shutdown was observed in other districts of Kashmir valley also against the Kupwara killing. Markets in other districts of valley remained closed while traffic movement also remained affected.
