SRINAGAR, Apr 23: Police today sealed the Hyderpora residence of Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani to foil the scheduled release of his book Ruh-e-Deen Ka Shanasa on Allama Iqbal. The people present in Jamia Masjid Hyderpora protested against the restrictions.
In a statement, Hurriyat (G) spokesman Ayaz Akbar strongly criticised state administration for the “unjustified police action.”
Ayaz said that Geelani was to release the third volume of book written by him titled “Iqbal-Rohi Deen Ka Shanasa” on Sir Mohammad Iqbal at Hyderpora office. “We had invited intellectuals, journalists, poets and senior citizens to the function which was to be held within the four walls of Geelani’s house. However, police had put up barricades and closed the road leading to Geelani’s house from Srinagar-Airport main road. Nobody, not even the media, was allowed to enter the venue of the book release function,” said spokesman.
He added that it is unfortunate that even social gatherings were not being allowed by the state authorities and genuine voices are being strangulated, said spokesman.
