Govt attaches principal Pulwama college
Div Com to inquire into incident
KT NEWS SERVICE
SRINAGAR, Apr 19: The state authorities today attached the principal of government degree college Pulwama. Massive clashes had erupted in the college between students and security forces as the latter had entered into the college premises.

Over 50 students, including females, were injured in the security forces and police action. The principal Prof Abdul Hamid Sheikh had criticised the security forces for entering into college premises despite his requests not to do so as such a move was bound to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of the college. The Pulwama incident later led to protests and clashes in several colleges and universities in Kashmir. The colleges continue to be closed since then.

Reports said the principal, Prof Abdul Hamid Sheikh, was attached to Director Colleges yesterday “till pending inquiry” and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir would inquire into the incidents that led to protests and submit the report to the department within seven days.

A senior most teacher of the college would replace Hamid as head of the college. As per sources, “no reason” has been given for his attachment.

The principal was not available for comments.

Meanwhile, the college submitted the information about the sequence of events that led to the assault of students which provoked students to protests and clashes.
