India, Pak trade fire in Poonch

POONCH, Apr 19: India and Pakistan troops Wednesday traded fire after the latter yet again violated the ceasefire by resorting to mortar shelling and firing on Indian posts in Degwar sector along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.

This was the seventh ceasefire violation in the month of April.

“The Pakistan troops of 654/MH and 59 Baloch from their forward posts Neck and Tunda initiated indiscriminate firing using heavy, small arms, automatic weapons and mortar shelling at 1115 hours targeting Indian posts Indian posts Khokri 1, Newla 1 and Newla 2 in Degwar sector along the LoC in Poonch,” official sources said.

Indian troops of 1/1 Grenadiers deployed on these forward posts retaliated effectively. The exchange of fire continued till 1.30 PM, the sources added.

On Monday, Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire by firing and shelling mortars on forward posts in Nowshera sector along the LoC in Rajouri district.

They had broken the ceasefire in the same sector on April 8, in Poonch district on April 5, in Bhimbher Gali sector on April 4 and twice on April 3 in Balakote and Poonch sectors.
