Protests in KU by students staying in hostel

SRINAGAR, Apr 18: In view of mass protests carried out by the students of degree colleges across Kashmir valley on Monday, all colleges, universities and higher secondary schools in the valley remained closed on Tuesday.
The administration on Monday had directed the closure of the universities, colleges and higher secondary schools in the valley after massive protests by students from colleges rocked Kashmir valley.
The protests were triggered due to brutal assault on students of Degree College Pulwama by security forces recently.
On Monday as massive protests erupted in Kashmir colleges, over 70 college students were injured in action by security forces, clashes in Srinagar and South Kashmir.
Several students in Srinagar have suffered serious head injuries.
Last week, security forces had barged into the premises of Degree College Pulwama and beaten up the students ruthlessly, severely injuring scores of students including female students and staff.
The assault on students has evoked widespread anger and anguish across the valley particularly the student community resulting in massive student outrage.
According to the officials in the administration the closing of educational institutions was ordered keeping in consideration the clashes and protests of Monday.
They said the step was taken to thwart any further clashes.
While the universities, colleges and higher secondary schools remained closed across Kashmir on the orders of the divisional administration, colleges shall continue to remain closed on Wednesday also
The officials revealed that all Colleges and SP Higher Secondary School Srinagar shall remain closed on Wednesday.
They said the step was taken to ensure that there are no further clashes.
Meanwhile protests were held in Kashmir University by the female students of different places putting up in hostels.
Scores of female students took out a protest March against the excessive use of force by security forces in Pulwama college and students of other colleges on Monday.
Raising slogans the students tried to march outside the gate however they were stopped by the university authorities.
