SRINAGAR, Apr 18: Work in courts in Shopian district continued to remain paralysed for the second consecutive day today due to a strike by lawyers against the killing of their colleague, Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan.
Khan was shot dead by some unidentified gunmen on the evening of April 16 at Pinjoora village in Shopian. The young lawyer was coming out of a local mosque after offering late evening prayers when he was abducted by gunmen. Reports said at some distance some more gunmen were waiting and the lawyer was shot dead.
Shopian Bar Association has strongly condemned the killing and described it as an inhuman act. The association said that Imtiyaz was not associated with any political party and had no other political affiliations. He was a practicing lawyer. The Bar Association decided to strike work for three days against the killing. It also demanded an in-depth probe and speedy investigations into the killing to expose the conspiracy behind his murder and identifying the killers.
The local people expressed dismay over lack of investigations into the killing. They demanded an honest, effective and time bound investigation, to solve the mysterious killing. According to them, during the day on April 16, SOG had set up a naka some distance away from the spot, where the lawyer was later murdered in the evening.
