SRINAGAR, July 9: Syed Ali Shah Geelani, chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) today supported Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), for issuing a dress-advisory to tourists.
In a conversation with media, he said, "It (JeI's statement) is a very valid thing. Islam seeks such a society where human values are respected, where modesty is upheld, where semi-naked dresses is not promoted, where alcohol and drugs are not promoted and where women and men do not mix."
Geelani said Jamaat's dress advisory to tourists visiting Kashmir is in line with the group's idea of society.
He said the culture of "nakedness, immodesty and alcohol" is "poisonous" to every human society.
"Not even a common person will accept this thing and Jamaat are the callers to Islam, they should talk about it and I congratulate them for talking about this issue," the Hurriyat (G) chairman said.
Jamaat-e-Islami had last week asked tourists visiting the Valley to desist from wearing skimpy clothes.
