SRINAGAR, Mar 24: Former MLA and MLC and executive Committee member of the Jammu Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), Advocate Bashir Ahmad Magray today tendered his resignation to the Congress high command.
After sending a formal communiqué to the party leadership, the senior Congress leader, who is also the member of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) said the Congress leadership both at the state level as well as at the national level was drifting away from the people at the grass-roots and was ignorant of the wishes and aspirations of the people, especially of Jammu and Kashmir.
Magray, who at a young age was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Rajpora assembly constituency of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district in 1972 and also represented the upper house of the state legislature as the member of legislative council (MLC) from 2010 to 2016 said the Congress leadership miserably failed to carry the people of the country along with it and especially failed to represent the aspirations of people of Kashmir before the Indian authorities.
He said the role Congress played over the years was not in the interest of the people of the State and its leaders have committed blunders after blunders while dealing with Kashmir issue, which has wrought dangerous consequences to the entire region.
The senior Congress leader said the party had particularly let people down by failing to resolve the vexed issue of Kashmir despite ruling the State for decades.
Magray, who also held the post of JKPCC Vice President, said the Congress high command should play a role in resolving the lingering Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people of Kashmir, especially the youth.
Stating that he was resigning from the party with a heavy heart after serving it for 45 long years and remaining in the opposition for over 20 years, the veteran Congress leader said he was not satisfied with the functioning of the party for long now as Congress in Jammu and Kashmir was not able to represent the aspirations of the people neither in the State nor at different forums in the country and world over.
Urging the party high command to accept his resignation, Magray said he had already shot his resignation letter to the party leadership.
