"Uncle, 21 March! Important date! You said it. But that why how?"
"Dear, an important date, no doubt! That very date, five international days are observed."
"Uncle, yes, what are the days?"
"Dear, these are: Nowruz; International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination; World Down Syndrome Day; International Day of Forests; World Poetry Day."
"Good Uncle, say please about them all."
"Dear interesting all. Nowruz (New Day, literally), first day of first month (Farvardin) in Iranian calendar, the day of vernal equinox, marks the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and has been celebrated for over 3,000 years in Western Asia, Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Black Sea Basin, and the Balkans."
"Uncle, second Day, please?"
"Next, that is, International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 1966. That was consequent upon the police shooting 69 people dead in a peaceful demonstration against the apartheid pass laws in Sharpeville, South Africa. Since, the Day is annually observed on 21 March to awaken the international community against all forms of racial discrimination and fight and end it."
"And third, about the World Down Syndrome Day please, but Uncle, first, what is Down Syndrome?"
"Dear, Down Syndrome has for very long been some natural flaws in chromosomal arrangement affecting approximately 1 in 800 humans. It generally causes both physical and intellectual disabilities that often result in other complex problems."
"Uncle, about the Day now?"
"Dear; World Down Syndrome Day, first observed in 2006 in many countries though, was recognized by World Health Organisation on 20 December 2007 and by the General Assembly of the United Nations on 19 December 2011; the latter ruled the Day shall be observed every year beginning 2012. Since, the Day has been observed by holding scientific and social and medical meetings, organising demonstrations, and exchanging knowledge at all levels."
"Fourth Uncle, please about the International Day of Forests?"
"Dear; International Day of Forests, as resolved by the United Nations General Assembly on 28 November 2012, was first observed on 21 March 2013. Since, each year, many an event, worldwide, has been celebrated to focus on the importance of all trees in forests or outside and the need of planting more and more. Of course, many tree planting campaigns have been launched every year on this Day."
"And last Uncle, how about the World Poetry Day?"
"Well dear; UNESCO it was that at its 30th session held in Paris in 1999 proclaimed 21 March as World Poetry Day and the Day has been observed from that very year. The purpose of observing the Day all along has been to promote the reading, writing, publishing, and teaching of poetry throughout the world - this because, as then remarked by UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova, 'Poetry is a window onto the breathtaking diversity of humanity.'"
"Great Uncle, all should wish to celebrate all these five days together. Deserved that is but rather difficult, yet all must try."
