Core group authorises Abdullah to take final decision
SRINAGAR, Mar 14: National Conference (NC) core group today authorised party president Dr Farooq Abdullah to decide whether or not the party should form an electoral alliance with Congress party during the parliamentary by elections in Anantnag and Srinagar seats.
The core group members will meet again tomorrow to take a final call over its alliance with Congress.
In today’s meeting which was presided by Dr Farooq Abdullah and others who attended the meeting includes, Omar Abdullah, party general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar, Abdul Rahim Rather, Mohammad Akbar Lone, Mian Altaf Ahmad, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi.
Giving details after holding core group meeting here, Omar Abdullah said core group members have authorized party President Dr Farooq Abdullah to decide whether or not to form alliance with Congress for the Srinagar and Anantnag parliamentary seats.
Omar Abdullah also said mainstream political parties and their activists needed enhanced security to carry on electoral activities in these elections.
He said that the state government, instead of increasing the security cover to party leaders and prominent activists, is withdrawing it.
Party sources said the NC would announce the names of its candidates for the by-elections on Wednesday
The voting for Budgam-Srinagar Lok Sabha seat is scheduled for April 9, polling for the Anantnag seat will be held on April 12.
The Anantnag parliamentary seat fell vacant following the resignation of Mehbooba Mufti after getting elected to the state assembly and taking over as the Chief Minister of the state.
Tariq Hameed Karra, the then PDP member of the Lok Sabha from the Srinagar seat, had last year resigned from both the PDP and Parliament.
