Mirwaiz welcomes govt’s guest control order

SRINAGAR, Feb 24: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman Hurriyat Conference (M), today welcomed the “guest control” order by the state government recently and appealed the people to take initiatives to end the social evils.
He was addressing a Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid here. “The state government has issued a guest control order recently. The question is not whether the order is good or bad. But the people should have taken initiatives on their own for such good steps to end the social evils. We should not wait for the government to do such good things for us but do it ourselves,” Mirwaiz said.
He said it is the responsibility of the people to take steps for social reforms since Jammu and Kashmir is a Muslim majority state. “Being Muslims we should not practice social evils which are not good for any person in the society irrespective of their religious backgrounds,” Hurriyat (M) chairman said.
He added that people in the state must lead others in ending social evils which are anti people and which have been strictly prohibited in Islam.
Terming the killings and oppression in Jammu Kashmir for the past 30 years as worst form of state terrorism, Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman, said hundreds of innocent youth had been detained in frivolous cases and were languishing in jails and police stations all around the valley.
He said among the political prisoners, a large number were elderly and ailing persons while many were juveniles and by detaining them in jails far away from their home, these prisoners were going through both physical as well as mental torture.
Calling for putting an end to this politics of vendetta, Mirwaiz demanded immediate release of all these political prisoners.
Mirwaiz said the way government forces targeted and battered people in Shopian a few days back, broke the window panes, and rouged up residents after forcing their way into their homes and fired pellets and bullets on the people is condemnable and unacceptable.
