Ex-DyCM’s PRO sent to 7-day police remand

JAMMU, Feb 21(JNF): Special Judge Anti-corruption Jammu Sanjeev Gupta today granted seven days police remand of Kewal Sharma, a billionaire forest guard who amassed huge property during his posting as Additional PRO to former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand.
Today Accused Kewal Sharma son of Gian Chand Sharma resident of Kachrial, tehsil Khour at present Patta Paloura, near Petrol Pump, Jammu was produced in custody by DySP H L Dhar of Vigilance Organization Jammu (VOJ) for seeking remand in case FIR No 32/2015 of VOJ for the offence u/s 5(1) (e) r/w 5(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act 2006.
It was submitted in the remand application that accused had amassed assets worth crores of rupees of property in the shape of residential houses in and outside the state besides commercial and luxury vehicles which were disproportionate to his income. It was further alleged that accused also managed to open bank accounts on fake documents and deposited crores of rupees in those fake accounts and the money had been utilized for raising assets.
It was also alleged that the accused was not cooperating with the investigation and to unearth the facts with regard to raising huge assets, the custodial interrogation of the accused was required.
Special Judge Anti-corruption Jammu, Sanjeev Gupta, after having gone through the remand application as well as the CD file, observed, “Keeping in view the fact that accused was a Forest Guard who allegedly raised huge assets disproportionate to his income, the prayer of the Investigation Officer (IO) for police remand of the accused is accepted and accused is remanded to police custody for a period of 7 days with the direction that accused shall be medically examined after every 24 hours. In case any medical assistance is required by the accused same shall be provided to him from the concerned doctor/s.”
