Plying of out-dated matadors

Kashmir Times. Dated: 2/17/2017 12:42:34 PM

Dear Editor,
Seeing the steep hilly roads of district Doda, i.e. the Chinab region of the state, the second largest region, after Ladakh and plying of out-dated vehicles on such roads, one shivers to ones backspin, along these very accident prone areas. The practice is going on incessantly, without any check, under the very nose of the authorities. Already we have lost many precious lives on these roads, including the life-long crippling of a few, say teachers of high caliber of Doda. The withdrawal of such out-dated vehicles and left fresh vehicles ply looks like a distant dream. This involves the licensing of ill-trained drivers. Added to this, the main brunt is borne mostly by the labour-class commuters, also the middle class commuters, as they can’t afford private and personal vehicles.
The service of government transport vehicles is missing from the roads in Toto, especially on Doda-Bhagwah road. The authorities rise to the occasion only when unfortunate accidents take place. It proves that the development mania has not yet reached the Chinab valley roads.
The celebration of traffic-week has fortunately benefitted in improving the situation and creating awareness among the masses. Still lot needs to be done to ameliorate the condition and let fresh vehicles ply on the roads.
