Clashes, shutdown in Pulwama against arrests

SRINAGAR, Feb 16: Clashes erupted at Pulwama town of south Kashmir today when locals in the area took to streets and held protest demonstrations demanding releasing of local youths arrested by police.
A shutdown was also observed in Pulwama town against the arrest of these youths.
Reports said clashes erupted in the area after youths took to the streets this morning and shouted slogans. They were demanding the release of the youths who were arrested by police.
Policemen already deployed in the town did not allow the protesters to proceed. They fired smoke shells and resorted to lathi-charge to disperse them.
The youths pelted stones and police also throw stones towards them. The ding dong battle continued for several hours.
A group of women also held protest against these arrests. The police allegedly chased them and started beating them ruthlessly.
A video of the incident went viral on social networking sites police seen beating women. The video is reportedly shot at Dangerpora, Pulwama.
