SRINAGAR, Oct 15: The police today filed charge sheet against Altaf Kaloo, and a female Doordarshan anchor, both allegedly involved in a moral turpitude case. The charge sheet was presented before the Chief Judicial Magistrate in presence of both the accused.

Sources in the court said, prosecution filed charge sheet against Kaloo, the former National Conference MLC in a case FIR number 110/ 2012 registered by police station Nigeen. Kaloo was caught by police allegedly “red handed” with a Doordarshan female anchor, but had managed an escape from the spot. However, the female anchor was arrested and lodged in women’s police station for a night in second week of September.

Besides arresting the female anchor, police had seized Kaloo’s car (Scorpio), three ATM Cards, a gun license from the spot. Next evening Kaloo got a pre-arrest bail.

The former NC MLC had also got a release order for his seized car from the court of sub registrar who later kept his own order in abeyance. However, Kaloo’s counsel filed a revision petition before the principal district and session’s court seeking quashment of sub registrar’s second order by virtue of which he had kept release order of Kaloo’s car in abeyance.

Kaloo and the female anchor of Doordarshan are facing charges in FIR 110 of 2012 registered by police station Nigeen under section 294 RPC (doing any obscene act in a public place) reached Nigeen police station. The police has added section 188 RPC (having flash light atop on vehicle illegally) in the matter.

“…since the investigation of case is on progress and the gradation of the case from section 294 RPC to PITA can not be rules out at this primary stage of investigation,” SHO Nigeen had said in its application for cancellation of Kaloo’s bail before a Srinagar court. Altaf Ahmad Wani alias Altaf Kaloo of Ashmuqam, Anantnag, is a National Conference leader and has functioned as MLC from April 2009 to April 2011. He failed to get a fresh ticket in Legislative Council elections in 2011, but is known for his proximity with NC top leadership.

Taking note of the media reports about the female anchor arrested by police and booked under section 294 RPC, the Doordarshan headquarters in Delhi had attached Director Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar Shami Shair to Doordarshan Headquarters New Delhi.

On September 9, evening the police had conducted a raid at a car parking near Bagh-e-Shagoofa near Nigeen Lake and arrested a female anchor working in Doordarshan. Known for her eloquence, the released female anchor has stage-anchored public shows of a number of VVIPs like Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's, Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi's and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s. She has been regularly anchoring the DD Srinagar’s daily morning show “Good Morning J&K”. She has also anchored hundreds of DD's programmes besides over 2,000 musical serials of DDK Srinagar and ‘DD Kashir’ in the last 10 years.
