City markets witness heavy rush

SRINAGAR, Feb 12: Kashmir valley returned to normal on Sunday after three days of consecutive shutdown and strike.
The shops, stores and other business establishments re-opened after remaining shut for three days owing to shut down and strike calls issued by the separatist leadership.
Across the city, markets reopened early in morning while massive presence of public and private transport was witnessed along all roads.
Huge rush of commuters and pedestrians was witnessed across the city markets on Sunday as markets reopened after remaining shut for three days.
City center Lal Chowk witnessed heavy rush throughout the day till late in the evening.
Moreover, the street market locally known as Sunday market witnessed massive rush of people. Street vendors in large numbers had erected their stalls along the stretch from TRC up to Jehangir Chowk.
Kashmir valley witnessed a complete shutdown on Wednesday on February 9 against strike call given by resistance leadership on the anniversary of hanging of Afzal Guroo, Indian parliament attack convict.
Shutdown was observed across Kashmir valley on Friday Feb 10 while separatist leaders had called for march towards UNO office.
Protests were witnessed in several areas of the Srinagar city while heavy deployment of security forces and strict restrictions were imposed across the city areas to thwart any protests.
Kashmir valley remained shut on Saturday on the hanging anniversary of Maqbool Bhat. The shutdown call was issued by separatist leadership to observe strike on the death anniversary of Maqbool Bhat.
During all the three days of shutdown massive security was deployed across the city and strict restrictions were imposed in several localities of old city and outskirts.
The restrictions were lifted from the city early Sunday morning.
