Thousands offer prayers at Hazratbal shrine

SRINAGAR, June 7: Thousands of people offered Friday prayers at Hazratbal shrine, here today after Shabe-Meraj last night. Big congregations were also held at other shrines across Kashmir.
Large number of people from different corners of Kashmir reached Hazratbal shrine last evening for night long special prayers on Shab-e-Meraj. They included elderly persons, women and children. Special arrangements were made by transporters for the travel of devotees from various areas including Lal Chowk.
After the night long prayers, the holy relic of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was displayed during morning prayers. The devotees continued to have glimpse of holy relic after the prayers during the day.
Vehicles carrying the devotees from different parts made a bee line towards Hazratbal shrine since this morning. One way traffic was allowed from Lal Chowk to Hazratbal road and back. Subsequently, the vehicles moved from Lal Chowk to Hazratbal via Lal Bazaar. The traffic from Hazratbal plied through Saida Kadal.
Stalls have been set up around the shrine by the vendors to provide food and other related items to the devotees.
Senior officers of state government visited the shrine to review the arrangements made for the devotees.
Congregations were also held at Jinab Sahab Soura, Kalashpora, Pinjoora -Shopian, Khiram-Sirhama in Anantnag and Kabamarg in Pulwama. Large number of people offered prayers at the shrines there and had the glimpse of holy Relic.
The Meraj-u-Nabi (PBUH) related religious activitiess will continue for a week. “I prayed at Hazratbal shrine last night and also offered Friday prayers there along with my family members,” said Aashiq Hussain of south Kashmir. He added that they will come again to the shrine on coming Friday.
Mohammad Khalil, a traffic policeman, said, “The traffic regulation was slightly difficult today because of the heavy rush of vehicles. We tried our level best to regulate the traffic smoothly so that there is no jamming on roads.”
Mohammad Ramzan, a policeman said, the Friday congregation passed off peacefully. “No untoward incident was reported today and we are hopeful that the situation will continue like that in days to come,” he added.
