Rape bid in Bhadarwah
Saidullah Rangrez
BHADERWAH, June 3: A villager allegedly made an attempt to outrage the modesty and attacked 22-year-old woman in Bhadarwah of district Doda.

Police on Monday claimed they have identified the person allegedly involved in attempt to rape followed by brutal attack of the woman. "The accused has been identified and a team from Bhalla Police Post is already on its way to arrest him," Superintendent Police (SP) Bhaderwah Roop Raj said.

The accused Jeetu son of Ram Prasad is a resident of village Cheeka Seri and is absconding after the incident. The Bhaderwah police have slapped attempt to murder section against the accused.

Roop Raj, Superintendent of Police Bhadarwah, told reporters on Monday that they have slapped sections 341, 376, 382, 323 among others of RPC (Ranbir Penal Code) under FIR number 73 of 2013.

The traumatised victim, an ASHA Worker and daughter of a BSF soldier posted in Orissa, is undergoing treatment for her injuries at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Bhadarwah.

While narrating the incident to media persons she said, “After completing my day’s work I was on way to my home which is situated at hill top in a village, 20 km from Bhadarwah town at 6 PM. While climbing the hill, I noticed a stranger following me. I took him as a villager and after sometime he enquired from me about our neighbours but as soon as we reached the forest area, he pounced at me which I resisted for more than 10 minutes while saving my dignity. He pushed me into the 40 feet deep gorge and I lost my conscious. Perhaps presuming me as dead the person fled from there. Later after gaining my conscious, I managed to reach the road side at village Seri from where I informed my husband and was shifted to this hospital.”

"There were injuries on her lips, cheeks, arms, skull and bruises all over her body, suggesting that attempts were made to kill her,” Kalyan Singh, her husband said.

The girl also had fever when she was admitted and was in severe trauma. Doctors at SDH said the girl is "in a stable condition" X-Ray of her skull has been done and is being examined for internal injuries.
