PDP to take up delay of Shahpur Kandi project with Centre : Mufti
KT NEWS SERVICE
MAHANPUR (Basholi), Oct 7: People Democratic Party (PDP) today said it would take up the issue of delay in inter-state agreement about a project downstream of Ranjit Sagar Dam which would provide water to farmers in Kathua district.

Addressing a public rally at Mahanpur in Basholi, PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said that PDP would vociferously take up the issue of delay in getting due share of the water from the Ranjit Sagar Dam. It would also take up the issue of delay in completion of Shahpur Kandi project with Government of India and concerned quarters,"

Mufti Sayeed said farmers of Kathua region were suffering losses due to delay in implementation of bilateral agreement with Punjab government over Ranjit Sagar Dam project.

He emphasised the need to take up with issue with concerned quarters. "PDP will effectively take up this issue."

The PDP patron said affected families, whose land was submerged in the dam project, must be properly rehabilitated and adequate compensation should be given to them. Responding to the demand of local people, the former chief minister said Mahanpur would be given tehsil status.

"During our tenure PDP had proved how to deliver good governance to the people," he said.

He said it was due to the conviction of the party leadership that PDP has emerged as strong alternative to the National Conference.

Pointing towards huge tourism potential in this belt, Mufti Sayeed said that during PDP-Congress regime Lakhanpur-Sarthal tourism circuit was especially setup to explore potential of this region. He said that Lakhanpur-Sarthal tourism circuit would change destiny of the people of this belt from Lakhanpur to Sarthal via Billawar, Basholi and Bani because there were a number of picturesque spots which would attract tourists from all over the country. He further said that there was huge scope of water sports due to construction of lake here.

Responding to the demand of local people, the former Chief Minister assured that Mahanpur would be given tehsil status. “Our party endorses demand of the residents of Mahanpur that this town should be given status of tehsil,” he said.

He reminded the gathering that during PDP-Congress regime new administrative units were created to provide all possible facilities to the people at their door steps. He said that PDP-Congress regime had set an example of good governance and it was only during that regime all regions and sub-regions were treated equally.

Mufti Sayeed further said that formation of PDP was a turning point in the history of Jammu and Kashmir and this party has scripted a new chapter in the political history of the State. “Aim of PDP is not just to attain power but to establish a new system to justice, transparency and equality in the State”, he said and added that PDP has a vision to address all problems of the people be it employment or development of underdeveloped areas. “During our tenure PDP had proved how to deliver good governance to the people,” he said and added that it was only during PDP-Congress regime that all regions of the State had participation in the governance and decision making process. “It is really a matter of satisfaction for us that PDP has also earned credibility and faith of residents of Jammu region”, he said and pointed out people of the whole State have realized that only PDP has the vision to address their grievances.

He further said that it was all due to the conviction of the party leadership that PDP has emerged as strong alternative of the National Conference. He added that first time after 1947, PDP provided people an alterative to choose government of their own choice because earlier the political scene in the state was dominated by National Conference and people had no other option.

The PDP patron, while lambasting the present coalition regime for eroding sanctity of the all democratic institutions, said it was result of the vigorous campaign launched by his party that state government has finally announced elections of the Block Development Councils (BDCs). “Our party has been agitating for empowering Panchayats in the State”, he said and added that party would continue its campaign till election of the District Development Councils. Sayeed called upon the Panches and Sarpanches, who turned out in large number in the rally, to elect good persons as BDC chairpersons.

Trilok Singh Bajwa, Thakur Balbir Singh, Surinder Choudhary, Rajinder Singh Manhas, Rangil Singh-Sarpanch, Suresh Sharma, Sudesh Sapolia, Joginder Singh, Mushtaq Ahmed, Shagun Deep Singh, Jodh Singh Saini, Iqbal Malik, Parveen Singh Pathania and others also addressed the rally.
