Police SI accused of fudging evidence dies in hospital

JAMMU, July 7: Sub Inspector (SI) Satnam Singh, Investigation Officer (IO) in Amandeep murder case, died of ailment at the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital, today.
He was suffering of diabetes and was admitted to the GMC hospital on July 3, due to some respiratory problem. He was admitted to the Emergency wing of the hospital since then and was shifted yesterday shifted to the hospital ward after slight improvement in his condition. However, his condition continued to deteriorate again and he died, this morning.
Satnam Singh was lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal in connection with fudging of evidence and tampering of weapon of offence in Amandeep murder case.
The postmortem was conducted by the board of doctors comprising of Dr Sunil Kumar of Surgery, Dr Rajesh Gupta of Medicine and Dr Jyotsana of Pathology department in presence of cops of Police Station Gharota under the jurisdiction of which Central Jail Kot Bhalwal falls. The board of doctors was constituted on the direction of Naib- Tehsildar, Jammu Mahesh Sharma.
The body was later handed over to the family members after completion of legal formalities later for last rites, this evening at 5.30 PM and the cremation will be held tomorrow morning.
The family members alleged that the Jail authorities were not care of the detenues as he was shifted to the hospital late.
Pertinently, charges under-section 409 and 120-B RPC read with section 3/25 Arms Act against Satnam Singh besides Manohar Singh then SSP Jammu, Suntan Mehmood Mirza then SHO Gandhi Nagar, Sarwar Hussain Bukhari Ballastic Expert FSL Jammu, Raj Singh Constable, contractor Nagar Singh alias Nago and Nago’s brother Rakesh Singh.
He was among six cops arrested in fudging of evidence and tampering of weapon of offence in Amandeep murder case.
Amandeep Singh son of Ex-MLC Depinder Kour was allegedly shot at by Jatinder Singh alias Raja, son of Nagar Singh on August 29, 2009 at his residence in Gandhi Nagar. A case FIR number 247 of 2009 under section 307, 34, 323 RPC and 3/25 Arms Act was registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar. The Investigation was entrusted to Sub-Inspector Satnam Singh. The victim was referred to Ganga Ram hospital, Delhi where he succumbed to his injuries next day on August 30, 2009 as a consequence the offence under section 307 RPC converted by 302 RPC.
