Governor inaugurates NZ Annual Conference of Indian Orthopaedic Association

SRINAGAR, June 1: Governor NN Vohra today called upon valuable members of the medical fraternity to secure maximum benefit from the rapidly advancing frontiers of scientific knowledge and technology for achieving cost effective management of various ailments.
The Governor, as Chief Guest, was inaugurating the 32nd North Zone Annual Conference of the Indian Orthopaedic Association organized by the Department of Orthopaedics, SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, at SKICC, here this evening.
The Governor stressed the need for progressively enlarging specialized medicare centres within the State for enabling timely and effective management of various diseases, particularly orthopaedic problems so that our people do not have to travel long distances for receiving the required treatment. He expressed sincere hope that all the required medical care and surgical interventions would become available within the State in the next few years and no one will have to undergo the cost and inconvenience of traveling to receive treatment in hospitals outside the State.
Referring to the workshop organized as part of this Conference on Shoulder Arthroscopy at SKIMS yesterday, the Governor noted that such demonstrations would help the young orthopaedic surgeons of J&K to learn these techniques from the eminent experts in this arena.
The Governor congratulated Dr. D. Paljor and his team of organizers for arranging this important Conference and wished fruitful deliberations to the participants. The Governor released a Souvenir brought out on this occasion and joined Dr. Mehraj-ud-Din, Guest of Honour, to give away Honorary Fellowships to three doctors at the function. He interacted with them and congratulated them for their notable contributions.
Earlier, the Governor lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the commencement of the Conference.
Dr Mehraj-ud-Din, Member Governing Body of SKIMS and its former Director, thanked the Governor for inaugurating the Conference and threw light on the establishment and growth of SKIMS Medical College.
Prof. Showkat Ali Zargar, Director, SKIMS, said that the Conference, in which eminent orthopaedic surgeons are participating, will provide a great opportunity to the young orthopaedic surgeons to share experiences and knowledge.
