Refuses to speak to media, says reporters ask only irrelevant questions

SRINAGAR, June 1: Stating that the Congress cannot compromise over the incorporation of the 73rd amendment of Indian constitution into the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Raj act, PCC chief Prof Saif-u-din Soz today said local bodies’ polls should be held at the earliest in the state.
Addressing the party workers convention at Dak Bungalow Anantnag, Soz said, “Congress has been serious in empowering the panchayats in the state from the day one. So to empower them incorporation of the 73rd amendment has to be done and there will be no compromise on it on part of Congress,”.
He further said that the Congress is ready for the local bodies’ elections in the state which should be held at the earliest. “We want the local bodies’ elections to be held in the state without any delay. We are trying to convince our coalition partner for the same,” Soz said.
His statement about the holding of local bodies polls came a day after National Conference President, Dr Farooq Abdullah stated that the elections cannot be held till the tourist season is over in the valley.
However, Soz refused to answer the questions posed to him by the media persons after the function concluded. “I have changed my policy with regard to speaking to media men. You only ask irrelevant questions and always ignore the speech. When the women’s convention was organized in Srinagar none of the media person talked about the issue but kept on asking about AFSPA and other things. So I have changed my policy. I have said everything during my speech that I had to say,” Soz told media persons.
