CBSE class 12 results out, girls outshine boys

NEW DELHI, May 27 (Agencies): Over 82 per cent students today cleared the 2013 Class XII CBSE examinations, with girls once again outshining the boys and the Chennai region beating others in the overall pass percentage.
The results were declared across the country today, with the total pass percentage standing at 82.10 per cent, an increase of about two per cent over the last year, said a statement issued by the CBSE.
In all, 9,44,721 students registered for the Class XII examination this year, which was also an increase of 15.81 per cent over 2012.
Girls continued to fare better than boys with 87.98 per cent clearing the exam as compared to 77.78 per cent boys. Among the regions, Chennai once again put up the best performance with a pass percentage of 91.83.
The results this year in particular assumes significance for students who aspire to make it to the IITs as weightage is given for the Class XII performance.
Accordingly, the cut off score for the top 20 percentile will be 391 for general category students this year, the statement said. For OBC, it will be 389, SC 350 and ST 338.
Rank holders in the JEE advance under the new format must be among the top 20 performers for admission to the IITs.
CBSE has started a 15-day tele-counselling facility for students beginning today. This year, 45 principals, trained counsellors from CBSE affiliated government and private schools and few psychologists are participating in tele-counselling to address psychological problems of the students.
37 tele-counselling facilities are available in India while 8 are located in Japan, Kuwait, Doha-Qatar, Saudi Arabia, U.A.E and Sultanate of Oman.
Students can dial toll free number 1800 118 004 from any part of the country to get centralised access to CBSE tele-helpline. While the general queries will be answered by the operators, students can connect to the principals or counsellors in case of result related anxiety or stress.
According to the CBSE statement, the first chance compartmental examination will be held on July 16, 2013. Regular candidates will route their requests through the head of institution.
The forms for verification of marks will also be available on the Board’s website www.cbse.nic.in.
Application can be made either online from the 6th day or offline within 21 days from the date of declaration of result. The fee will be Rs 200 per subject.
For urgent verification, however, applications can be made on-line within 5 days from the date of declaration of result, the statement said. The fee will be Rs 300 per subject.
Fee can be remitted either in cash or through demand draft favouring Secretary, Central Board of Secondary Education payable at the respective regional offices.
Pursuant to the decision of the Supreme Court, photocopy of the evaluated answer books will also be provided to the candidate on request, the statement said.
Applications for the same will be accepted by the Board from 31st day of the declaration of the result on the website.
