Police books Sarpanch for ‘rape’ in Surankote
POONCH, May 25: Police today claimed to have booked Sarpanch of Faislabad village of Surankote tehsil in Poonch district for allegedly raping a minor girl, who was working and living as maid in his house for the last couple of years.

Police said that last evening the domestic help Parveen Akhter (changed name) along with her kin reached Police Station Surankote and gave a written complaint alleging that Sarpanch of Faislabad Mohammad Riaz, 40, son of Mohammad Shafi allegedly raped her for more than two months and when she became pregnant, he aborted her pregnancy by using some medicines.

Kin of the victim preferring anonymity said that the girl was living in the house of Sarpanch for the last couple of years. The girl was minor and was working as maid in the house of Sarpanch, who lured her and started allegedly raping her for last three months. According to him when the girl became pregnant he aborted her pregnancy with the help of some medicines. He claimed that Sarpanch threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed it to anyone. The Sarpanch threatened to kill her along with her parents, he added.

The relative of the victim, who accompanied her to Police Station also claimed that last evening girl managed to escape from Sarpanch’s house and reached her father’s house where she narrated the whole story to her family. The family along with the girl came to Police Station Surankote and lodged a FIR against Sarpanch.

Police said that they have registered a FIR number 55 under section 376 RPC at Police Station Surankote and raided various places to arrest the culprit. However, the culprit was still at large when the reports last came in.

SSP Poonch, Choudhary Shamsher Hussain, when contacted, said that police has registered a case in this connection and conducted medical examination of the girl. “We raided various places but the culprit was still absconding. Our teams are on job and soon they we will arrest the culprit.”

Replying to a question about the age of girl he said physically the girl appears to be adult but police is trying to verify her age. He said not even a single culprit will be spared.
