POONCH, May 24: Security personnel today claimed to have detained one former militant along with his family while he was returning home via Nepal border in Surankote tehsil of Poonch.
According to official sources, “Nazir Hussain son of Mohammad Bashir of Marote in Surankote tehsil was detained by police along with his wife and three children near Jogi Morh in Surankote tehsil of Poonch. Nazir was travelling in a passenger bus when he was asked to alight along with his family.
Police have recovered 2 PAK ID Cards from the person of Nazir along with a mobile phone and Nepal based SIM card.
According to official sources, Nazir Hussain reached Karachi from PAK and boarded a Nepal bound flight. On reaching Nepal he entered India via Gorakhpur and later arrived in Jammu via Lucknow.
Nazir had crossed line of control in Sabjian in 2001. After spending some time there he married a girl Rifat Bi hailing from Nikyal area of PAK and gave birth to three children Aisha Nazir, 6, Omar Nazir, 4, and Osama Nazir, 2.
The surrender-cum-rehabilitation policy of present regime is now showing their fruits as today one more ex-militant along with his family including a wife and three children returned from PAK to Poonch. All of them were apprehended by alert cops at Jogi Morh area of Surankote this afternoon when they were trying to returning back to their home at Marote village of Surankote Tehsil of Poonch district.
Police said he initially joined Harkat-ul- Mujahidin Islamia and got weapon training in Fagosh training camp after that he was shifted to Karachi where he got advance weapon training. He was then shifted to Nikyal for religious training where he came in contact with Rifat Bi and got married in 2004.
It was reliably learnt that in last year two youth of the same village returned along with their family by crossing LoC in Dhegwar village. At that time they claimed that they were returning to their home under surrender-cum-rehabilitation policy of state government.
Mohammad Sadiq (changed name), a sibling of Nazir Hussain while interacting KTNS said that he exfiltrated to PAK in 2001 where he lived in a ‘Muhajir camp’ for four years and was working as a labourer to earn his livelihood. He denied Nazir’s connection with any militant organization, adding that the parents here requested him to return to India to avail benefits of surrender-cum-rehabilitation policy of state government. On the question that this policy is for militants he remained tight lipped. He claimed that they earlier attempted to enter Indian territory by crossing LoC but Indian troops didn’t allow them to enter and now they opted Nepal route.
Sources in police department said during investigation Nazir said that firstly he moved from Karachi to Nepal from where he boarded for Lucknow from where he reached Jammu yesterday. Today he boarded a bus for Marote and on the way at Jogi Morh police arrested all of them. Police will register a case under 2/3 EGRECE Act at Police Station Surankote against them.
SSP Poonch Shamsher Choudary, when contacted said, “We have information that they were reaching here that’s why we initiated strict vigil on Jammu-Poonch road and got a success when we arrested Nazir along with his family at Jogi Morh. We recovered a Nepal SIM of N cell along with two PAK Identity Cards of Nazir and Rifat Bi. He said they destroyed their Passports in Nepal.
On a question that whether they will be treated under surrender policy, he said that police is investigating the case and are studying that whether they applied for surrender-cum-rehabilitation policy. However he added that state government had classified few points for youths to return under this policy but they did not returned by these routes.
