‘Think before criticising Geelani’

SRINAGAR, Mar 31: Hurriyat Conference (G) has taken a serious note of the remarks against its chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, by National Conference (NC) members in legislative assembly and described it as their frustration.
In a statement, a spokesman of the faction said, Geelani’s personality does not need any introduction. “The ruling party members and their head can come to know about their real popularity if they accept our challenge to appear before the court of public. We had challenged them in the past also but they have no courage to accept it. The daily wagers of Delhi in assembly must keep their position and status in mind before saying anything,” he said.
The spokesman said the MLAs, who are not known to the people in their ancestral villages, must see where they stand on popularity front before opening mouth against Geelani. “National Conference party is the worst symbol of dictatorship and it is the root cause of all the sufferings of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. People fully know as to who are their sympathizers and friends-Those, arresting the leaders and using pepper gas and pellet guns or those who represent the aspirations of people and face serious problems during their struggle,” he added.
The Hurriyat (G) spokesman alleged that the ruling party played a vital and central role in getting Mohammad Maqbool Butt and Mohammad Afzal Guru hanged. “From day one, the National Conference acted as a group of vested interests and indulged in anti people activities and caused immense sufferings to the masses. Sometimes they for power surrendered before their masters in Delhi and sometimes praised the Indian forces and gave them big titles. We do not want argues with those, who indulged into sell out every time, but for keeping the record straight we want to tell that we are committed to offer our lives for people and freedom. We cannot act as silent spectators to the killings of our youth, the pathetic condition of our youth in jails outside and dishonoring of our mothers and sisters,” he said.
The spokesman said that the rulers want that people should die and Geelani must remain silent. This will never happen. He asked the National Conference government as to why tragedies occur during its rule. “Have you made a commitment to kill every Kashmiri to please Delhi? Do you want that your political irregularities are not taken notes of and that nobody should raise his voice even if you continue to make the people to suffer,” the spokesman said.
Defending the resistance of people, the spokesman said the opinion of ruling party men will change if they have to carry the body of their dear ones on shoulders. It is very easy to make tall claims under the heavy security cover of army and police but without the support they cannot succeed in the test of popularity. He reiterated his challenge to National Conference to go to the court of people and test popularity.
The spokesman strongly condemned the continuous house arrest of Geelani.
