Chib inaugurates 18th North zone climbing championship

SRINAGAR, Sep 10: Minister for Medical education, Youth Services and Sports R.S. Chib today inaugurated 18th North Zone Sport climbing Championship at Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) Nowgam. The Championship was organized by Directorate of Tourism in collaboration with Department of Youth services and sports and the J&K Mountaineering and Tracking Club here today at Tourist Receptions Center (TRC) Nowgam.
Chib hailed the contribution of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and Tourism Minister, Navang Rigzin Jora for the promotion of Tourism sector. He said this climbing wall is a great addition to the tourism related activites and will be fruitful and definitely boost the adventure tourism of the State.
Chib while appreciating the efforts of tourism department for organizing such events said that these attempts will boost the adventure tourism and are playing vital role for the upliftment of the economy of the people in the State. He said that department of YSS will provide any sought of help and coordination to any department for the promotion of for organising such events in the State
Minister said that government is very keen and committed to provide better sports facilities and infrastructure throughout the State and will explore the hidden talent of young generation so that they will represent the State at national and International level.
He urged upon the participants who had came from various states of the country be ambassadors of J&k when they return their homes back and give positive message regarding the J&K. More than 100 participants from all Northern States like Uttaranchal, Utter Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, ITBP, besides hosts Jammu and Kashmir are participating in the championship.
The Jammu and Kashmir is fielding two teams as J&K Red and J&K Blue. The competition will be held for four days in different events like Speed, Bouldering and Lead.
The competition will be held in Junior and Senior in both male and female category. The championship has been approved by Indian Mountaineering foundation New Delhi, the apex body of sports climbing in the country.
