Clashes leave several injured, Magisterial enquiry ordered

SRINAGAR, Jan 14: Clashes erupted between protesters and police at Peerbagh area of Srinagar outskirts after the body of Polytechnic College student, with his throat slit, was found near railway track in mysterious circumstance.
The youth was identified as Owais Bashir Malik, son of Bashir Ahmed Malik of Peerbagh, who went missing two days ago. His body was found this morning on the railway track in nearby Humhama locality.
The district commissioner has ordered magisterial enquiry of his death and police has registered case under section 302 PRC in police station Budgam. The enquiry will submit its report within a month.
Shutdown was observed in his native Peerbagh and its adjoining areas against the killing. The family and other mourners demanded a fair probe in his killing.
Reports said that when the news spread in the area that Owaiz Bashir’s body is lying near by railway track a large number of people rushed to the spot and held protest demonstration against the killing.
The protesters blocked the Srinagar airport road and did not allow any vehicle to ply on the road. A large number of people held protest demonstration near the police headquarters.
The police resorted to lathi charge and burst smoke shells to disperse the protesters. The protesters pelted stone towards the police and the clashes continued till late in the evening.
The protesters forced the police to take defensive measures after the youths pelted stones towards them from various directions.
Reports said that number of youths including some cops got injured in the police action.
Most of the traffic leading towards the airport had to take alternative routes to reach airport. Large number of passengers could not reach the airport due to the clashes.
The protesters also attacked the VIP vehicles, forcing them to take alternative routes.
The protesters had erected barricades at number of places on the airport road.
As per the family, Owais left his home on Tuesday at around 5 PM but did not return and his phone was switched on till he reached Rawalpora.
The body of the deceased youth was laid to rest at Goripora, Sanat Nagar. Large number of mourners participated in his last rites.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Lone ordered a magisterial enquiry into the incident. Additional District Magistrate, Hamidullah Mir will look into circumstances of the youth’s death and come with a report within one month.
Taking cognizance of the crime police has registered a case FIR number 09/2016 under section 302 RPC in Police Station Budgam. After completion of medico legal formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to the relatives for last rites.
Expressing profound grief over the mysterious killing of a youth whose mutilated body was recovered by police this morning near Railway Bridge Peerbagh, former Minister Public Works and MLA Amirakadal Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari has demanded a thorough probe into the incident.
Bukhari expressed deep shock and grief over the unfortunate incident and extended his heartfelt sympathies and solidarity with the bereaved family.
“The police should probe the incident expeditiously and demystify the cause of death of Owais Bashir Malik whose throat-slit body has been recovered by police this morning,” Bukhari demanded.
