Expedite settlement process of Dal dwellers at Rakh-i-Arth: Jora

SRINAGAR, May 14: To expedite and implement the Rakhi-i-Arth project for early settlement of Dal dwellers by allotment of plots to them, the Minister for Urban Development and Local Bodies Nawang Rigzin Jora convened a high level meeting here today to discuss bottlenecks coming in the way of the project.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner Secretary Housing & Urban Development Jeet Lal Gupta, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Shalinder Kumar, Vice-Chairman LAWDA, Irfan Shah, ADC Srinagar and other senior officers of the concerned agencies.
The Minister emphasized on the officers dealing with the project for early settlement of the Dal dwellers. He directed Revenue department and LAWDA to work in close coordination to settle the issues hindering early settlement of Dal Dwellers.
The meeting was informed that as many as 500 plots have been developed and allotted to Dal dwellers so far, while as presently 55 structures are under construction in Rakhi-i-Arth colony. The Rakhi-i-Arth colony is being developed on modern lines at a cost of Rs 416.72 cr with all basic amenities including schools, parks, road connectivity, mosques, and play fields, the meeting was informed.
The meeting was further informed that out of 7500 kanals of land at Rakhi-i-Arth, 1500 kanals of land have already been developed for starting the construction work. The meeting was told for the acquisition of land and structures within Dal and Nigeen lakes and subsequent dredging for eco-reconstruction of land under PMPRP a project of Rs. 356 crore, involving removal of 1363 structures, acquisition of 4453 kanals of land mass and 10539 kanals of watery land and mechanical dredging of 8093 kanals.
As many as 726 out of 1174 structures under NLCP have already been removed from Dal Lake till date.
The meeting was also informed that 217 kanals of land out of 1380 kanals of land mass, and 2414 kanals of land out of 5827 kanals of Watery land has been dredged out so far from the Dal Lake
Meanwhile, Nigeen sewer line project was also discussed in the meeting and it was told that Amdakadal to Barar Trunk sewer line has already been laid and 45 habitations have been connected with this line and further work is in progress.
On the occasion, the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir directed the Revenue officers to cooperate and provide necessary required Revenue documents to the LAWDA for laying further sewer lines.
The meeting also discussed the Dignibal-Ganderbal land encroachment issue. The Minister asked the Divisional Commissioner to settle down the issue and remove the encroachments.
