SRINAGAR, Mar 30: Encouraged by the support of PCC chief Prof. Saif- u-Din Soz, Employees Joint Action committee (EJAC), today accused the state government of resorting to double standards on retirement age issue.
“On one side, the government is reluctant in increasing the retirement age, and on the other side, they give extensions to the blue eyed bureaucrats, and relatives.” EJAC leader Abdul Qayoom Wani told KNS on Saturday. He warned government of a fresh spell of agitation if their demands were not met soon. “We had deferred our strike call in February due to law and order crises in the aftermath of Afzal Guru hanging. But now we are meeting again next week to devise a fresh strategy,” added Wani.
While welcoming Soz’s statement, Wani said state government was misleading the educated unemployed youth with regard to increase in retirement age. “Government had constituted a committee headed by the then chief secretary and we have a reliable information that chief secretary has favoured an increase in the retirement age, observing that by increasing the retirement age by two years, government would be able to save Rs 350 crore, ”claimed Wani, adding that there were just 8,000 posts falling vacant in two years, whereas the official statistics reveal that there are 80,000 available vacancies in various departments. “80,000 are official figure, I am telling you there are 1.5 lakh vacancies available in various departments. If government wants to provide jobs to unemployed Youth, let it fill the 1.5 lakh vacancies,” said EJAC leader.
Meanwhile another EJAC leader Mohamamd Khursheed Aalam has appreciated Prof. Soz’s statement and said that there was no justification for stategovernment. to ignore the demand.
“It is unfortunate that despite giving so much time, government has been unwilling to take a call on the various demands of the employees,” said Aalam in a statement.
