Girls stand out once again, shine in merit list

SRINAGAR May 19: Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education, winter zone, declared the results of class 10 examinations today and yet again girls outshone boys in merit list. The top three positions have been grabbed by girls.
Interestingly top seven ranks have also been acquired by girls. Anika Shabir, daughter of Shabir Ahmad Rather of Hajahad Public school Awantipora has topped the examination by scoring 494 marks out of 500 with a percentage of 98.80 %.
Top second positions have been shared by four girls who scored 491 marks. Shaheera daughter of Shamim Ahmad Shamim of Hajahad Public School, Awantipora, Naseelah Fayaz, daughter of Fayaz Ahmad Rather of Linton hall Secondary School Rajbagh, Jasafa Showkat, daughter of Showkat Ahmad Bhat of Green Valley Educational Institute, Illahibagh and Shamikha Ali, daughter of Ali Mohammad Reshi of Presentation Convent HR Sec School have been declared second toppers with 491 marks and a percentage of 98.20 %.
Third position is shared by two girl students. Anoosha Javed D/O Javeed Rasool Shah of Mallinson HR Sec School, Sheikhbagh and Maliha Feroz D/O Feroz Ahmad Baba of Presentation Convent HR SC School, Rajbagh are declared third toppers with 490 marks out of 500.
The first three positions are shared by seven girls (with 494, 491, and 490 marks out of maximum 500). Third position is shared by two girls who scored 490 marks.
Moreover, 182 students share top 20 positions. The top 20 rank holders include 131 girls and 51 boys. Yet again the maximum are girls.
Around 50535 students which included 26900 boys and 23600 girls had appeared in the examination. 32678 students have been declared qualified. The senior officials at State Board of School Education revealed that the overall percentage of students qualifying the examination was 71.85 %.
However, the pass percentage of boys is higher than girls. The overall pass percentage of boys is 74.53% and girls 68.80 percent.
1152 students have qualified the examination with Grade A1. 4567 students have been declared qualified with grade A2. 5928 students have passed the examination with grade B1.6921 have passed with grade B2. 7609 students have acquired grade C1 while as 5738 grade C2 and 773 grade D.
The results were announced early today by J&K Board of School Education. Class 10 examination was held by J&K BOSE in the month of March this year. The delay in the examination was caused due to devastating September floods last year. Usually the examination is held annually during the session of Oct-Nov.
