SRINAGAR, Jul 1: The Hurriyat Conference (G) today said the fire at the shrine of Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani (RA) and its subsequent situation was part of a game plan.
“The inferno at the shrine and the situation that followed were all a part of the game plan, which was meant to damage the movement and our cause. The government does not want to expose it (game plan). Restricting (Syed Ali) Geelani Sahab from visiting the shrine arises several question the answer to which is known to the people,” the spokesman of the conglomerate, Ayaz Akbar, said in a statement here.
After the restrictions ended, the most separatist leaders visited the damaged shrine, but Syed Ali Shah Geelani, chairman of Hurriyat (G) continues to be under house arrest.
“When there are no restrictions in Khanyar, Geelani Sahab is still under house arrest because government is afraid of letting him visit the site,” the spokesman said.
The chief minister and his government, he said, has “failed to confront Geelani Sahab politically.”
“The government knows they have forced calm in Kashmir on gun point, and that Geelani Sahab and his supporters openly opposes the policy. It is for this reason they do not let him to meet people and carry out his political activities,” he said.
Responding to the sealing of the residential house of Ghulam Muhammad Khan Sopori, the conglomerate termed the action as “state terrorism” and pledged to challenge it in the court.
“Sopori is a gentleman. The action against him is all politically motivated. We stand by our brother and we will challenge the action against him in the court,” the spokesman said.
