Khalid was militant: Army

SRINAGAR, Apr 14: Army today claimed that Khalid Muzaffar, who was killed by it in Tral, yesterday was trying to recruit youth in militant ranks.
In a statement a defence spokesman claimed that Khalid was a militant and killed in an encounter.
He said consequent to the recent attack by militants on the security forces, army had intensified search operations at places from where inputs about likely presence of militant. “One such operation at Kamla Top resulted in contact being established South of Hurdu Mir area of Tral, district Pulwama. The militants were effectively engaged and one militant was eliminated,” he added.
He claimed that it has been confirmed that Khalid Wani, who has been operating as over ground worker, had taken the three youth who were later arrested by police, to meet Burhan for their recruitment into militant group. “The incident has thus prevented the three youth from being misguided by late Khalid Wani into joining the militant ranks,” the spokesman claimed.
The spokesman said as a result of the ongoing search operations, one more dead body recovered from the area where operations had been conducted on 13 April 2015 in Kamla Forest area. Body has been identified to be that of Younis Ahmad Ganie, resident of Kausarbal Payeen, Tral, a local militant who was involved in killing of Rafiq Dada, a surrendered militant on April 6.
