Normal life affected by separatists called strike

SRINAGAR, Apr 11: Normal life was affected in Kashmir today in view of a general strike called by separatists against the move for settlement of Pandits in secluded clusters in the Valley. However, the situation remained peaceful.
The call for the strike was separately given by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Mohammad Yasin Malik and Shabir Ahmad Shah. The strike call was supported by Hizbul Mujahideen.
Shops and business establishments remained closed in most parts. Government offices registered thin attendance of employees. Public transport was off the roads. However, private vehicles and auto rickshaws were playing on the roads in civil lines, outskirts of Srinagar city and district roads.
The reports also said that a shutdown was also observed at Baramulla, Sopore, Bandipora, Hajan, Pattan, Palhalan, Ganderbal, Kangan, Budgam, Char-i-Sharief, Pulwama, Shopian, Anantnag, Kulgam, Khanabal, Dooru, Bijbehara and almost all the major
The authorities had not imposed any restrictions in Kashmir valley today. However, police and CRPF personnel were deployed in sensitive areas like Maisuma, Nowhatta, Rainawari, Rajouri Kadal and several other areas of old Srinagar and uptown Srinagar. The security measurements were also made in district headquarters and other townships of Kashmir valley. The police said that the situation across Kashmir valley remained peaceful and there is no incident of stone pelting anywhere in the valley.
