SRINAGAR, Feb 28: Residents from several localities in Srinagar complained of facing huge inconvenience due to the continued water logging in their localities.
The inhabitants of areas including Batamaloo Bemina said despite repeated appeals the concerned officials were not doing anything to dewater these localities.
They said the officials were being mute spectators to their miseries without paying any heed.
“Over a week has passed since this entire area got badly submerged; however there is no dewatering process yet. Water has even entered the compounds of most of the houses here. For past so many days we are not able to move out of our homes. It is so ironic that officials are not looking in to our grievances. The dewatering station is almost defunct. Whenever they start dewatering process the power supply is interrupted and they give excuses of running out of diesel. They befool us by saying they were running out of fuel,” a delegation of residents from Firdausabaad Batamaloo revealed.
They added, “Some officials from civil department had visited and assured they will sort it out but our condition is going from bad to worst. it is more than pathetic. Despite our repeated appeals to the concerned department nothing is being done. They are just giving excuses. We cannot come out of our homes. We are facing hardships but no one cares.”
Residents from various localities of Bemina, HMT Tengpora also complained of same.
When contacted the executive engineer civil Firdaus Ahmad said, “This is up for mechanical department to look into the matter. May be the dewatering is halted because of interrupted power supply. I will see if they need diesel. We will try to provide it. This is for the mechanical division to look into it but we will supply fuel if they need it.” Firdaus Ahmad said.
“Dewatering is stopped due to erratic power supply. We have already asked the PDD for an essential line which will provide 24 hours power supply to the dewatering station and they have sanctioned it. It will take just another day to get it fixed. The residents need to wait for a day only till PDD to establish the line. After that we shall start dewatering process again. I am in touch with the locals also. I know their grievances but this will be sorted out in a day only,” superintendent engineer Ihtiyaq Shah said.
