FIR necessary against Telangana CM

Kashmir Times. Dated: 9/19/2014 11:16:40 AM

Dear editor,
It refers to threatening remarks of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao against media like ‘breaking their necks and bury under ten kilometres under the earth’ for such TV news-channels not dancing to tune of state-government. Already two TV news-channels have been blocked in the newly created state for airing view-points against policy of ruling Telanagana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in the state.
Such statement could easily result in filing of an FIR against the threatening person. But it is practically impossible that any such FIR may be filed against a Chief Minister in his own regime. Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) should take cognizance of the news-report and grill state Chief Minister for at least tendering an unconditional apology.
Union Ministry of Information & Broadcast and Press Council of India should also swiftly act for restoring constitutional right of freedom of expression, by ensuring lifting of ban on two TV news-channels in the state. Protesting journalists taken into preventive custody against the ban should be released immediately.
Federal structure should not allow states to behave in an irresponsible manner. With a strong one-party government at the centre, Union government should swiftly act against wrong-doings of political rulers in states.
