SC verdict denying gag-order to restrict media

Kashmir Times. Dated: 9/18/2014 11:49:03 AM

Dear Editor,
Supreme Court has rightly denied any gag-order restricting media on reporting matter of controversial persons related to cases being probed by country’s premier investigating agency Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) visiting residence of CBI Chief. Apex Court order in this regard should be applicable on matters pending in High Courts also.
But there is no clarity about any such gag-order earlier passed if any by any High Court which might have restricted media for reporting the matter for which the case may be pending before the concerned High Court. Justice demands that such gag-order if any already passed by any of the High Court may also be quashed even without being asked by any of the concerned party. Freedom of media which acts as vigilant-eye against wrong-doers should be ensured by avoiding passing gag-orders against media.
